I arrived in Raleigh yesterday and was waiting for my wife to pick me up. The next train arrived going in the opposite direction, the passengers began to board. A young man came running from the lobby out to the platform calling to a ticket agent, “Maam, Miss!”. She acknowledged and he began to explain that he just couldn’t find his ID. She informed that without the ID she couldn’t sell him a ticket. The train departed and the young man sat disillusioned. I watched and thought about how it really isn’t about ID, it’s about control. How can people vote without an ID but not ride “public” transportation. Really, a college student with a debit card with his picture and friends with IDs that can vouch for him can’t get on a train or bus? Can’t you search him? I’m not for that but it’s an option. You and your movement are now being monitored and the ones monitoring are being trained as the constabulary force, without their knowledge but they suck up the power and will use it. They are being groomed to pit themselves against fellow citizens, just like the TSA and local police. Do we really need to search 6 year old girls? No, it’s a matter of getting everyone used to it.
I remember when I was a kid learning about Germany and how fellow Germans turned on each other, “How is that possible? It could never happen here…” Yeah right!
